When I lived in South Bend, Indiana I experienced “Studebaker Days.” People from all over, would bring their cars and drive them in a parade. You can always tell a Studebaker. Another car I will always remember. Edsel, named after Ford’s son. When I buy a car, I begin to see that car everywhere I go. I never noticed it before, but now I see it all the time. If you paint a room a certain color, you notice that color in other places. We note brands and types of clothes on others. We start looking like others. WE BEGIN TO IDENTIFY WITH OTHERS IN OUR MINDS.
GENESIS 1:26-27 “GOD SAYS, LET US MAKE MAN IN OUR IMAGE ACCORDING TO OUR LIKENESS.” IN “IMAGO DEI,” IN THE VERY LIKENESS AND IMAGE OF GOD. That is enough for today. To know that God made us in His image. When you look into the mirror this morning, did you see the “Image of God?” Put a little card at the bottom of the mirror that says, “IMAGO DEI.”
Romans 8:29 says, “…to become conformed to the Image of His Son….” In everything we go through, in everything that happens to us, part of the grand plan is to “conform” us into the Image of Jesus Christ. To make us Love as He Loves, to be Peace, as He is Peaceful, to be Merciful, as He is Merciful, to be Forgiving as He is Forgiving, etc. What is the Image of God to you…and how can you be that to others?
II CORINTHIANS 3:18 says, “But we all, with UNVEILED FACE beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord are being transformed into the same image….” As we walk this Journey, the things that happen in our lives, are transforming us into HIS IMAGE. Exodus 34:29-30 says, “Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him (God).” Others saw him “…the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him.” It was evident to all around, that Moses had spent time in the presence of God. Can people see that in you?
When people look at me, they should see the “IMAGO DEI” in me. The face that I show, should illuminate the whole Image of God. You may be the best of what people see today. You can prove to be the best by knowing that you are made in the Image of God.
