THE WAY! WHAT’S IN A NAME?

YOUR NAME

Many years ago, my mother gave me this  writing. I do not know where it came from. I wish I could give credit to the person who wrote it, but I can’t. It is called “YOUR NAME.”

“You got it from your father. It was all he had to give so it’s yours to use and cherish for so long as you may live. If you lose the watch he gave you, it can always be replaced. But a black mark on your name, Son, can never be erased.

It was clean the day you took it and a worthy name to bear when he got it from his father. There was no dishonor there. So make sure you guard it wisely. After all is said and done, you’ll be glad the name is spotless when you give it to your son.”

Magnus, you gave a spotless name to Victor. Victor you gave a spotless name to Clare. Clare you gave a spotless name to Me. I have passed on a name to my four children. Unfortunately, I have spotted the name. Dad, you knew it. Mom, you knew it. I have left some tarnish on OUR name.

So to my children, and my grandchildren, THE NAME YOU BEAR, IS A NAME TO BE PROUD OF BUT ALSO A NAME TO CHERISH. It is not spotless, because I have not heeded what my Father/Mother taught me. I have not carried those lessons with me through life.

I have gone my own selfish way, and I have some dirt on my name. I am working very hard to clean the name and be able to clear the name. Dad you know me….and Mom you know me….and to each of my Children…you know me.

I am not professing to be perfect, but as I live the rest of my life, I AM VERY AWARE OF THE NAME I CARRY WITH ME. I WILL DO BETTER. The people of the early church, took the name of Christians, meaning “Christ followers.” That is a name of which I also have tarnished and made dirty. I know I can do better.

I want to live as a “follower of Christ.”  The Apostle Paul said:“Be an imitator of me, even as I am of Christ.” So today as we walk on this Journey….remember the name you bear. Thank you to all my children….for helping me to clean up OUR name. You all have done a better job than I.
