The Way Forward!

Unfortunate death of Anthony B. this weekend. Imagine at 61, your whole life comes to a end. You have absolutely nothing to look forward to.Don’t you want to call someone tomorrow? Is there something else you want to do that you have put off doing?

One more concert, one more project, something else to achieve?

Will you say at the end of your life, “It is finished!” (Jn 19:30) Did you know what was expected of you in this life? “Did yer get ‘er done?”

10541952_10203505689180975_3890423574900346926_nThere is a lack of purpose in our lives today. It is all meaningless. Day in, day out!

                     “Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.”   -Ps. 139:16

God wrote in a book about us. Every day of our life is explained in this book.  Are you interested in knowing what’s in the book? Do you want to read this and find out what your purpose is on earth?

Ps. 138:8 says, “The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me;…” I need to go to the print shop. I have a purpose for the trip, and I will accomplish that today.

It is so easy when you know what your purpose is and how it can be accomplished.

Love More Than These?

Fish over Fire

Fish over an open fire…delicious! Jesus is sitting on the beach: “Come and have breakfast.” (Jn. 21:12-ESV)  Looks mighty good.

Jesus engages Simon Peter in a personal word. “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” (Jn. 21:15-ESV)

Is it obvious who or what Jesus is referring to by “these?” “Do you love me more than the other disciples?”  Or “Do you love me more than these…fish?” Ha! The humor of God may be over-the-top. We may miss the depth of His question.

Fish were created to do what? Do fish complain? Do they worry about tomorrow? Do they grumble about their predicaments? Do they disobey what God purposed for them?

Fish do exactly what God purposed them to do and fully engaged. They depend upon God for all provisions. All animals in creation do what they are purposed to do.

Man is the only purposed creation of God who was given a will. He can rebel against God, ruling forces (government, jobs, etc.), mates and partners, and children against parents. We do as we want.

Peter do you love me like these fish? Do you do exactly what I purposed for you to do in life? The way to an abundant life is to know what we are created to do. Do you love Me more than these? And the fish said, “Amen!”

Got Fish!

Famous words: “Got Fish!” (John 21:5) When fishing, do you come home empty-handed?

The disciples were out all night fishing and had empty nets.  Nothing to show for the effort.  Our whole system demands results that are observable. Many live under the constant stress of performance. We try so hard and yet we are wrong.

To fish with net Jesus tells the disciples they are doing it all wrong. Don’t fish on the wrong side of the boat. Fish on the right side of the boat.

If you want to be right, then do it right!  The fish are five feet on the other side. How is that possible? We have done it this way all the time. They found out they were inadequate.

The way to success is knowing where you are and who is able to help you get results.

Lost My Way!

a54be-path

I get lost from time-to-time. Sometimes I know I am in the right area, or going the right direction, but I still am lost.

The journey of life is self-navigational. Talk about that word for ten minutes, but you know the meaning.

Most of the time, we are told what to do and where to do it.

Robert Frost, great American Poet wrote: “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I–I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.”    -THE ROAD NOT TAKEN

The other day I took out my 2008 map and could not find the road. I decided a GPS navigational system was in my future.

The journey in life has a handbook.

“Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth;” -Ps. 86:11 (ESV)

“God will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;”  -Ps. 32:8 (ESV)

Would you be willing to stop and ask for directions? Please!
